Harmonizing Global Standards and Local Practices in Arbitration: Insights from the MENA Region

Georgetown Arbitration Month is the flagship event of the Georgetown international Arbitration Society (GIAS). As the only arbitration event that lasts an entire month, the event allows for in-depth exploration of international arbitration. On 5 February 2025, the GIAS will host Decentralizing Arbitration: The Rise of Regional Hubs as part of its 13th edition of Georgetown Arbitration Month.

Arbitration has traditionally been centered around leading hubs, such as Paris, London, Geneva, or New York. As the current trend goes beyond these places, Singapore, India, and the MANA region are emerging as influential hubs, each brining unique strengths to the global dispute resolution landscape. Singapore leads with innovation and procedural efficiency, India showcases a transformative approach to reforms and accessibility, while MENA offers a compelling blend of tradition and modernity. Together, these regions reflect the growing decentralization of arbitration, associated with important economic growth, creating diverse, accessible, and culturally attuned platforms for resolving disputes.

The MENA REGION | Harmonizing Global Standards and Local Practices in Arbitration: Insights from the MENA Region Panel explores cultural sensitivity in international arbitration, with a particular focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. From the interplay of tradition and modernity to the integration of international and Islamic legal principles, this discussion sheds light on the nuances shaping arbitration in one of the world's most dynamic regions.
